Saturday 5th April
We got up at 4:30 am to catch an early train down to London. We were very impressed with the train and the service. Just two and a half hours later and we were in central London. A short trip on the tube took us to Islington and the United Makeup Artists Expo.
It was all just beginning, so we took a quick look round, said hello to a few friends, then had a coffee and a cake. Feeling refreshed, we looked round properly.
The building itself is wonderful. It used to be The Royal Agricultural Hall and was rescued from demolition in 1981 to become The Business Design Centre.
The show is a real case of 'Beauty and the Beast'. There were stands, demonstrations and talks from every branch of makeup artistry.
Beauty...
Beast!
We watched as several people were slowly transformed using a combination of prosthetics and grease paint. These talented actors then brought their transformations to life as the lurched, stalked and crept their way round the expo, happily posing with anyone for a photo. At one point even though we had seen the the whole process, when the Frankenstein's monster leered towards us, our breath caught in our throats.
This was how the monster started the day.
And he became this.
We saw a lady hand knotting a wig with a combination of human hair and yak.
The incredible attention to detail in sculptures for characters and monsters. The animatronics used to create life like movement and expressions.
This lady was actually only 25.
There were many more and all were spectacular. I am really looking forward to going again next year.

The start and finish of a cyborg.
